SmartSpace is 100 percent New Zealand owned, and we’re proud to keep it local. With our head office in Eden Terrace and our manufacturing and logistics building in Onehunga, we can execute custom jobs quickly and troubleshoot more easily than other soft fit-out companies in New Zealand.
In our factory, we develop our own agile solutions, assemble and customise prefabricated products, and do in-house testing. We coordinate all our deliveries from here, and as an MPI approved facility, all our imported lines are stored in-house too.

LOCAL AND SUSTAINABLE WHERE POSSIBLE
Products we make at our Onehunga factory include our SYS 35 & SYS 25-Frameless screens, Smartalock lockers, and desktops. We believe the smartest solutions are also sustainable ones. We take this philosophy seriously at SmartSpace, where we also offer furniture removal and recycling with our workplace solutions. Our Rubix workstation is certified 98.9 recyclable.
“We made a very conscious effort to choose environmentally friendly materials for these workstations, with an emphasis on recyclability at product end-of-life,” says managing director James Dodunski. “Our manufacturing partners are just as committed to responsible life cycle management and product stewardship as we are.
While some of our favourite products like the Fliss range aren’t made at our Onehunga facility, they are made in Auckland, by our manufacturing partners. “We stand behind theirs and our work and are happy to make adjustments until the customer is satisfied, “says James. “The same people talking to the clients are the same people giving the brief to the factory. This structure ensures great value and clarity for our customers”.
WORKPLACE BLISS BY FLISS
Speaking of our favourite products, keep an eye out for our new Fliss Soft Seating range, designed exclusively for SmartSpace by our in-house designer Felicity Wong. Blurring the boundary between work and home, this upholstered collection has lounge appeal, a contoured silhouette, and a wraparound back for acoustic and visual privacy.
“It’s the perfect thing for open-plan offices that want to evoke a warmer, more inviting feel,” says Felicity, who has a background in workplace design, both here and abroad. “The design can also accommodate virtually any fabric, as long as it’s flexible enough to stretch around the curved back.”
Manufactured in New Zealand, the range includes armed and armless, 1-2-3 seaters, meeting booths, and irregular-shaped seats that can be custom-made to fit any area. Seating can even come with integrated power and data outlets. Très geek chic!
SUCCESSFUL SOUTHERN CROSS FIT-OUT
One of our most-recent projects we have been working on, both in-house and alongside our local manufacturing partners has been Southern Cross, New Zealand’s largest private healthcare group. Spanning multiple floors, the installation will include workstations, Smartalock lockers as well as our new Fliss units.
